October at Meadowbrooke

October!  Fall arrived officially on September 23rd but the weather in PA is still pretty warm most days.  Soon the days will be shorter, the leaves will turn crimson and orange and the temperature will begin to get cooler and cooler.  Anyone who knows me can tell you that this is my favorite time of year.  I really enjoy all seasons but after all the hot and humid weather of summer, I look forward to crisp mornings, bonfires in the backyard and cozy blankets to curl up in.

Sunflowers

If you were unable to make it out to the Sunflower Festival this past weekend, not to worry, we will still have sunflowers for the next couple of weeks.  Just a reminder that our fields are open from 7am-dusk. Please remember to bring along a pair of clippers (all of ours have walked away) and a container to put your flowers in.  We still have water for your containers so no need to fill them up before you come.

Pumpkins/Corn Maze

Just down the road from us is Warehime’s Pumpkin Patch which is open Thursday and Friday evenings from 4:00pm -7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am - 6:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm - 5:00pm.  They still have plenty of pumpkins for you to pick and make sure to check out their corn maze (admission for the corn maze is $7.00/person).  They also have free multi-colored sunflowers.

Trevor’s Trolley Rides

We will continue to run the Trolley throughout the sunflower season. For the first two weekends of October, we will have some additional rides each day. The Scenic Sunflower Tours takes you on a relaxing ride around the farm.  You will be able to get out and pick sunflowers, see where the pumpkin patch is and enjoy other views of our farm. The trolley tours take about an hour and cost $5.00/person.  Click here to sign up for the trolley tours.

Create Your Own

We still have lots of room left on Friday, October 11th.  If you are looking for a more laid back environment to create, this is definitely the time to come.  We are holding two classes, one at 9:30 and one at 12:30.  Here is the link if you would like to sign up. https://mbgourds.com/event/fall-create-your-own-event/.  For those that are already signed up, make sure to check out all the great projects at the link above to help you decide what you want to make before you come.  It amazes me how each year, Ashley and Ben come up with new and really interesting designs.

Sale/Tours

Our free Fall Tours will take place every day October 14-18 at 2:00 pm.  If you were ever interested to know how we craft our gourds, this is your chance.  The tour lasts about 45 minutes, is inside and on flat ground. No reservations are needed, just come into the retail store where the tour will start.  We will also be having our Fall Sale from October 12-19.  The sale is 25% off all regular Fall Meadowbrooke Gourds, Fall garlands and candle rings in our retail store only. Come get your last minute Fall decorations and while you’re here learn exactly how we do what we do.

As you can see, there are lots of things going on in October here at the farm.  For those who are wondering about the Winter Create Your Own, the dates are December 6-8 and December 13-15.  Registration has not opened yet but if you want to be one of the first to know when it does, sign up for our newsletter at www.mbgourds.com/newsletter.

Until next month,

Dori
